About the project
I was contacted by Bob McBurney on the recommendation of a past client – James Nash. Both are creatives practicing in Leeds, UK.
Bob was looking for a clean, simple portfolio website for his abstract paintings where the focus would be squarely on his artwork, with no distractions.
We went through a few rounds of revision with graphic designer and fellow Queer Web Design-er Seren Oakley before landing on a design that Bob was satisfied with.
I used Salient for the flashy elements, as well as the portfolio. Salient is a great theme incorporating a bunch of JavaScript libraries while still being lightweight. It transitions easily to mobile and tablet, and remains a favourite premium WordPress theme (it’s also the theme used on this website!)
Finally, we added Bob’s writing and his favourite self portraits, creating a welcoming, easy to navigate, and pared down portfolio website where Bob’s content can live.
Each month, I add more content to the website – whether paintings or blogs – emailed to me by Bob. I always harp on at my clients about the importance of keeping your website populated with fresh content, so I’m happy Bob is as enthusiastic about this as I am!
”Dear Billy. You are, quite simply, a genius. I love it.
